Andrew Bailey has had a rough go of it recently.
The Red Sox closer has blown four saves in 24 games (three in his last five chances). His most recent chance came on Thursday when he gave up a one-run lead in the ninth inning against the Tigers. Manager John Farrell said on Wednesday that Bailey was “definitely our closer.” It seems those feelings have changed, though, as Farrell said after Thursday night’s game that he was open to exploring other ninth-inning options.
Bailey will get opportunities to close in the future, but as The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham discusses in the video above, it may be in more low-leverage situations for the Sox. For the time being, Koji Uehara will close for the Red Sox.
