Bil BelichickA report about Tim Tebow surfaced about a month ago, claiming that Bill Belichick “hated” the former Broncos and Jets quarterback. Belichick refutes the claim.

Belichick responded to the report on Thursday, denying the notion that he hates Tebow as a player and even going so far as to call the initial report “untrue” and “baseless,” according to ESPN.

“I wouldn’t get into the probability of us pursuing any free agent,” Belichick said generally about players in free agency. “Every single player has strengths and weaknesses but regardless of that, for anyone to have represented that is the way I feel about Tim Tebow is completely untrue, baseless and irresponsible. It is unfortunate that something so inaccurate was reported.”

While Belichick’s response was very direct and pointed, the fact that he responded to the report at all is the most interesting storyline. Belichick has mastered the art of dodging questions and diverting attention with the media, and it’s unusual that he would address any speculation directly. The only other instance in recent history was when he added a statement in the press release announcing Danny Amendola‘s signing.

There’s no telling what this could mean for the Patriots or Tebow. Maybe it’s an indication that the Patriots have interest in him, or maybe it’s just Belichick clearing the air. Either way, it’s very strange sight to see.
