The Red Sox were in control from start to finish in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, but David Ortiz’s mammoth home run in the sixth inning really gave them a stranglehold.
Ortiz’s home run off Angels reliever Jerome Williams, which extended Boston’s lead to 7-2, was about more than just putting the game out of reach, though. It was an absolute moon shot, further emphasizing just how locked in Ortiz is this season.
The tape-measure blast traveled 434 feet before landing about 20 rows up in the right-field seats. Ortiz knew right away that the ball was long gone, and so did pretty much everyone else at Fenway Park.
The home run was Ortiz’s third dinger of at least 430 feet this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information, and all have come at Fenway. In fact, Ortiz is responsible for 19 percent of the 430-foot homers at Fenway since 2006.
