Doc Rivers Answers Bill Simmons, Says 'I Would Call Him an Idiot, But I'm Too Classy for That' (Video)

Bill Simmons, like many Boston fans, has some thoughts on former Celtics coach Doc Rivers cutting short his five-year deal with the team and heading to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Simmons, unlike most Boston fans, also has a job as an ESPN analyst, and he took advantage of that post to share his comments on Rivers. Unsurprisingly, he was none too pleased that the coach who has been the glue of the recently powerful Celtics decided to bolt, leading to the dismantling of the team.

Rivers got his chance to respond to Simmons’ thoughts Thursday night, and he did so with his usual wit and poise.

“I would call him an idiot, but I’m too classy for that,” Rivers said on-air on ESPN, adding that once people know the truth of what happened, they would be less prone to point fingers.

The broadcast then cut back to the panel of analysts, including Simmons, who was given a chance to fire back as well. Simmons emphasized that Rivers’ story appears to keep changing.

Rivers will likely be answering questions about his departure for some time, especially now that Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have been traded away, according to reports late Thursday night.

All that’s left now are the tears and insults that come from a jilted fan base.
