Eric ManginiAfter two years away from coaching, Eric Mangini is finally back on the sideline this year with the San Francisco 49ers.

While he’s happy to be the 49ers’ senior offensive consultant, Mangini says he wants to be a head coach again.

“That’s definitely a goal of mine,” Mangini told CSNBayArea.com. “Right now, I’m doing what I can do here as well as I can do it. I think it’s every coach’s goal to eventually do that.”

After serving as defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator for the Patriots from 2000 to 2005, Mangini was head coach of the Jets from 2006 to 2008 and the Browns from 2009 to 2010. He accumulated a 33-47 record as head coach.

He made the playoffs just once during his five-year head coaching career, during his first season with the Jets. New York would go on to lose to the Patriots in the first round of the 2006 playoffs.
