In football, the saying goes “any given Sunday.” In baseball, it’s the Moneyball mantra that the playoffs are a “crapshoot.”
Well, in any athletic competition at its highest level, once the two teams reach the championship at the end of the season, the difference between them is razor thin. Such is the case with the Bruins and Blackhawks, who find themselves tied 2-2 in the Stanley Cup Final.
Jack Edwards took a break from doing 90 minutes of pre- and postgame on NESN for every contest during the Final to call into 101ESPN St. Louis to talk about the series Thursday, and duly noted the somewhat random nature of the best-of-seven. Likewise, Edwards believes the teams are very evenly matched, and says that during the playoffs momentum doesn’t last longer than a single shift.
