Poor Lindsey Vonn.
Not only is the two-time Olympic medalist skier still on the rehab trail, trying to come back from that horrific knee injury sustained in February in time for the 2014 Sochi Games, but it seems that her personal life isn’t quite going as planned, either. Of course, Vonn has made news in the tabloids for months, first with speculation she was dating Tiger Woods, before the pair confirmed their relationship in March.
Though there have been no reports (yet, anyway) of trouble between the celebrity-athlete couple, that doesn’t necessarily mean Vonn is comfortable with every aspect of the relationship. In fact, Vonn says she feels overlooked, even marginalized at times, according to a recent interview with The New York Times.
“I can be normal by myself; no one notices me,” Vonn said. “But wherever he’s around, we’re living in a fishbowl. I didn’t quite know what I was getting myself into. It’s weird. But it’s just something I have to deal with. He has his job, and I have mine. I just have to get used to it.”
However, getting used to the high-profile nature of their pairing doesn’t always come that easily.
“Some people seem to forget that I’m not just Tiger’s girlfriend. I’m actually a successful athlete. I’m Lindsey. I have my own career and my own life.”
However, Vonn reports that other parts of their relationship are fairly normal. The two do share their personal and professional interests, and come home to talk about work. But that doesn’t mean Vonn has any input in Woods’ ongoing swing rebuild, or Woods on Vonn’s technique on the slopes.
“He knows how to ski,” Vonn said. “And I don’t give him a lot of feedback about his golf game. We talk golf after his golf rounds, but mostly I listen. We really are normal in that way. Lots of people go home and talk to their wife or husband about their job. That’s what we do.”
So, it seems that it’s true what they say. Celebrities really are just as boring as the rest of us.
