Pitching a no-hitter in a big league debut would be a pretty big deal.
Detroit Tigers pitcher Jose Alvarez carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of his first big league start, but Cleveland Indians outfielder Ryan Raburn rained on Alvarez’s parade, knocking a solo home run into left field to end the no-no bid.
Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was, naturally, frustrated for his teammate. He took it out on Raburn as he rounded third base. Cabrera took the gum he was chewing out of his mouth and tossed it at his former teammate, nailing Raburn in the chest. Raburn cracked a small smile and continued to home plate to score the Indians’ only run in a 4-1 loss.
