Greg LouganisThe man widely considered the greatest Olympic diver ever came out as gay and HIV positive back in 1995. Since that time, he has enjoyed an acting career, gotten involved in dog agility contests and taken on a mentoring role with the United States diving team. He was also fortunate enough to be portrayed by Mario Lopez in a made-for-TV movie depicting his life.

Now, Greg Louganis is getting married.

On Monday, Louganis announced that he’s going to marry his partner, paralegal Johnny Chaillot, this fall. The couple have been together a little over a year.

“I finally met my soul mate — the more I fall in love with Johnny, the more I fall in love with myself. This is what the universe had in store for both of us,” Louganis told People magazine.

During his career, Louganis won five Olympic medals, including four golds, and the 1976, 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games (an American boycott kept him from competing in 1980). Louganis first publicly spoke about being gay and HIV positive during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1995. Aside from being a mentor for the U.S. diving team, Louganis was a judge on the ABC reality show Splash earlier this year and appeared on an episode of Portlandia in 2012. He’s currently a judge on the Red Bull Cliff Diving Tour.
