Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron won’t be at the team’s break-up day on Wednesday at TD Garden. That’s because he’s in the hospital.
The team announced Wednesday morning that Bergeron would be absent because he’s been at the hospital since the Bruins’ loss in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. Bergeron has “been under observation” since the conclusion of Monday night’s game, according to the club.
Bergeron revealed following the season-ending loss Monday night that he had been playing with a broken rib and torn cartilage. Additionally, Bergeron separated his shoulder during Game 6. The Bruins forward left Game 5 in Chicago, presumably due to the rib injuries. He was taken to a Chicago hospital, but he left shortly thereafter and traveled with the team back to Boston before playing in Game 6.
“I think even when he was getting dressed in the locker room before the game, you could feel the boys’ spirits lifted,” Tyler Seguin said after Game 6. “The year we won he was doing the same thing; fighting through everything. Obviously guys have bumps and bruises, but he’s a guy that you obviously say is the heart and soul of our team. He wears that ‘B’ with a lot of pride.”
