No team ever wants to suffer through a disappointing season, but a silver lining to those struggles comes on draft day. The Red Sox hold the No. 7 overall pick in Thursday’s MLB draft, the team’s highest selection in years.
The MLB draft isn’t the spectacle that the NFL or NBA versions are, and most players selected are years away from the big leagues. But Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino hopes this year’s crop of picks will grow to be contributors at the major league level, just as first-rounders Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury have.
