The Vancouver Canucks, whose interest in trading veteran netminder Roberto Luongo has long been rumored, are now also entertaining the possibility of trading Cory Schneider, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.
Schneider took over as the primary starter in Vancouver this season after two years as Luongo’s backup, finishing with a 17-9-4 record during the lockout-shortened campaign.
Schneider’s goals against and save percentage statistics both dipped from his 2011-12 totals, though, when the Boston College product set club records for both in 33 appearances, and neither he nor Luongo were able to steal a game for the Canucks in the playoffs. San Jose scored a total of 15 goals in a first-round sweep of Vancouver, with each goaltender starting two games.
Dreger reports that a first-round pick and a prospect would likely be the starting price for Schneider, with Edmonton being mentioned as a possible suitor.
Schneider has tallied a .927 career save percentage and 2.20 goals against average in parts of five seasons with Vancouver.
