Clippers Rivers BasketballWhen Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce going to the Clippers was still a possibility, there were jokes about the Clippers becoming the West Coast Celtics. It turns out they still will be, just not on the court.

The Clippers’ bench will look at lot like the Celtics’ bench of the last few years, as Doc Rivers plans to bring most of his assistant coaches with him to Los Angeles. Kevin Eastman and Tyronn Lue are “in” to join Rivers’ staff, while Armond Hill is also under consideration, ESPN reports. Alvin Gentry, who was let go by the Suns in the middle of the season, is the lone member of the rumored staff who was not an assistant coach in Boston last season.

Jay Larranaga is the only member of the staff who has a contract with the Celtics for next season. Larranaga will coach the Celtics’ summer league team in Orlando, but his status beyond that has yet to be addressed by the team. Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Thursday during the draft that he had not begun to consider bringing in candidates for the vacant head coaching job.
