Gregory Campbell has redefined taking one for the team.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Thursday that Campbell is done for the season. The forward broke his right fibula when blocking a slap shot by Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin in Wednesday night’s 2-1 double overtime Bruins win. Joe McDonald of ESPN.com first reported the news.

Campbell blocked the shot during a penalty kill in the second period and remained on the ice until the power play ran out. The Bruins slogged through the rest of that period and the next, plus an overtime and about three quarters of another overtime, before Patrice Bergeron finally found a hole for the game-winner.

Campbell’s teammates were full of praise for his effort after the game.

Campbell had three goals and four assists in the playoffs.
