Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry are already on their way to Brooklyn, and a fourth former Celtic may find a home in the borough this offseason, as well.
League sources tells Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski that the Nets are considering signing free-agent center Jason Collins, who made headlines last month by becoming the first active male player in a major American sport to reveal that he is gay.
New head coach Jason Kidd is reportedly very interested in bringing in the 34-year-old Collins, but the decision will ultimately hinge on the Nets’ roster situation, which was given a serious shake-up following Thursday night’s blockbuster deal to acquire Pierce, Garnett and Terry.
Kidd and Collins are certainly familiar with one another, as the two shared the court for seven seasons as members of the New Jersey Nets. Their head coach for five of those seasons was Lawrence Frank, whom Kidd hired to join his coaching staff on Friday.
Collins had the most successful stretch of his career in New Jersey, reaching the NBA Finals as a rookie in 2001-02 and posting career highs in points (6.4 per game) and rebounds (6.1 per game) in 2004-05. Since being traded midway through the 2007-08 campaign, Collins has made stops in Memphis, Minnesota, Atlanta and Boston before finishing this past season with the Wizards.
