SchilIf you were following along with Patriots minicamp on Twitter on Tuesday, then you might have noticed a mysterious No. 84 popping up in conversation. Well, we’ve finally figured out who the mystery man was.

The Patriots had former New York Jets wide receiver Chaz Schilens in for a tryout on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com, closing our search for the elusive 84.

Schilens, 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, was initially mistaken for popular veteran and former Patriots receiver Jabar Gaffney, who checks in at 6-foot-2 and better than 200 pounds himself. So, it’s a pretty reasonable mistake, which befell most of us on Tuesday.

Schilens, 27, was a seventh-round pick of the Raiders in 2008. He spent his first four seasons with the Raiders before joining the Jets last season. He caught 28 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games with the Jets, which just so happens to be where new Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow played last season.

The Patriots also hosted former Colts wide receiver Austin Collie on Tuesday, though he did not practice with the team.
