If you’ve never been in a Tiger Woods news conference, it’s quite a scene. Woods is generally the only golfer who draws enough journalists to fill up the interview room under the press tent, and even then there are usually more throngs still standing in the back. Moreover, every reporter wants to get their question in, and only a small fraction get answered.

So, it probably helps if you have a blood relation to Woods to be heard from the podium.

On Tuesday, Woods was in the middle of his typical pre-U.S. Open news conference when he got a question from a familiar voice. Cheyenne Woods, Tiger’s 22-year-old niece (who is trying to establish herself on the LPGA Tour), was allowed to ask a question for some reason, and it certainly took her uncle by surprise.

“The U.S. Open is usually one of the most grueling weeks of golf,” Cheyenne said. “So what would you do off the course in order to be at ease and relax?”

“Didn’t expect that,” Tiger said in response. “Well, off the course, we have a great crew at the house and we’re going to have fun. Tomorrow, make sure you’re — is it 6:30 dinner? Is that all right? OK. Perfect.

“So just relax and have a good time and get away from it and when it’s time to play, it’s time to play. But overall we’re just going to get away from it and not really watch any golf. When it’s time for me to get ready, I’ll get ready.”

So, hey, between Cheyenne, Lindsey Vonn and his mother, at least we know that Tiger has a positive relationship with at least three women.
