We’re in the dog days of the NFL offseason, so excuse us for resorting to posting CFL clips. This one is surely worth it, though.
Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Diamond Ferri, an Everett, Mass., native, made one heck of a play, cutting off a wide receiver for a leaping interception. He weaved his way down the oversized CFL field before getting a little too close to the sideline. That’s when 6-foot-11, 340-pound offensive lineman Matt O’Donnell charged at Ferri with a full head of steam and nailed the much smaller defensive player.
Ferri laid motionless on the field for a few seconds before writhing in agony. He was finally helped to his feet a little over a minute later.
Both players have spent time south of the Canadian border. Ferri started his pro football career with the Giants, Falcons and Cardinals before taking his talents to the CFL. O’Donnell spent a year on the Bengals’ practice squad. O’Donnell also received a tryout with the Boston Celtics in June 2011. He hadn’t played basketball since high school.
