2013 has not been a fun year for Rory McIlroy, to say the least. The No. 2-ranked golfer in the world, a year after being named the PGA Tour Player of the Year, hasn’t played nearly like one. He hasn’t won any tournaments and even had a brush with controversy in February, when he walked off the course at the Honda Classic, citing wisdom tooth pain.

And now, it appears McIlroy is hitting rock bottom.

McIlroy had a dismal first round at the British Open on Thursday, shooting an 8-over 79, which put him in 134th place and a whopping 13 shots off the lead. Then, to make things worse, McIlroy lamented his play in his post-round news conference, saying he feels “like I’m walking around out there a bit unconscious,” and that his recent struggles are making him feel “brain dead.”

And, as one may imagine, those remarks caught the attention of British tabloids.

Check out Friday’s tabloids, which include calling McIlroy “brainless,” in the tweet below.
