It seems that Koji Uehara isn’t the only relief pitcher with a strong backing for his All-Star campaign.

Toronto Blue Jays hurler Steve Delabar was a substitute teacher two years ago. Now, he’s on the verge of being voted into his first MLB All-Star game, and he has people in high places in his corner.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper tweeted out a plea Wednesday to get Blue Jays fans to help vote Delabar into the game.

Delabar has fashioned a 1.76 ERA through 36 appearances this season, with five wins and one loss under his belt after enduring Tommy John surgery and a fractured pitching elbow.

Delabar is one of five American League candidates for the 2013 All-Star Game Final Vote, where fans can vote their favorite player into the final roster spot at Tuesday’s Midsummer Classic at Citi Field.
