Tyler Seguin isn’t your average 21-year-old but he took his job “as serious as any 21-year-old would,” according to Bruins head coach Claude Julien.
Julien spoke to the media Thursday and answered questions about the recently deported Seguin, who was traded to the Dallas Stars late last week. Rumors have surfaced that the deal was made because the organization had enough with his off-ice antics and Julien was approached with his thoughts on the matter during the news conference.
“Everybody as a 21-year-old doesn’t always have the maturity to be a professional, whether it’s in the gym, here or there,” Julien said. “You work with all those young guys the same way. Do different players have different challenges? Absolutely.”
Seguin was infamously scratched from the lineup against the Jets in 2011 after missing a team meeting. Rumors surfaced that he was “partying” too much during the 2013 postseason, but the team hasn’t acknowledged those whispers.
Julien claims the player-coach relationship with just that: between a player and a coach.
“There was no issue between Tyler and I, and I’m not afraid to say it,” Julien said. “You guys can ask him at some point. There were no issues there. I worked with him as a hockey player, I dealt with him as a person. With everything else, there were never any issues that I know about, anyway. I thought we had a good relationship.”
