There seem to be more questions than answers when it comes to Clay Buchholz‘s health. The plot thickened Sunday.
Buchholz will travel to Florida to visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday, according to John Farrell. The idea, Farrell said, is to give Buchholz some peace of mind about the status of his neck and shoulder.
“As I’ve said many times, [Buchholz] is extremely frustrated with it,” Farrell told reporters Sunday. “As it seemed like he was turning the corner on the trip when we went through Seattle and the throwing that he was doing, it hasn’t. So more than anything, to get some verification and clarification through Dr. Andrews to put his mind at ease is as important as anything that he’s dealing with from a physical standpoint.”
Buchholz hasn’t pitched since June 8 because of neck and shoulder soreness, and his rehab process continues to change. The right-hander appeared to be making progress, but he didn’t pitch over the All-Star break, and we’re once again left wondering how long he’ll be sidelined.
Buchholz has said that he won’t pitch until he’s 100 percent, as he doesn’t want the injury to worsen.
