Add this one to the trove of random baseball facts — albeit those that intersect with astronomy.

Clayton Kershaw was on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, but the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher wasn’t talking about the snubs that most fans would have been expecting to hear about, such as Kershaw not starting the All-Star Game. Instead, he had thoughts on a family snub of planet-like proportions.

Kershaw shared that his great uncle, Clyde Tombaugh, was actually the person who discovered the (former) planet Pluto. Kershaw said it’s a family disappointment that Pluto has since been downgraded from a full planet to just a dwarf planet.

Kershaw did say, however, that he’s gotten plenty of pick-me-ups from fans lending moral support — some have passed on shirts that say “Pluto is still a planet in our hearts.”

Random? That baseball on Kershaw’s Dodgers jersey could look like an asteroid, too.

Check out Kershaw’s crazy connection in the video below.
