Once the Rockets signed Dwight Howard, it was assumed that Lin and Asik would be on their way out, but Howard is pushing for them to stay put. He and James Harden feel so strongly, in fact, about the guard and the center staying with the team that they have taken the issue up with general manager Daryl Morey.

“The reality is James and Dwight want to play with Jeremy and Omer,” Morey said. “I’ve been kicked down to assistant GM. They’re going to be here.”

While Howard will certainly take away a large chunk of Asik’s playing time, the newest member of the Rockets views him as an invaluable asset to the team and trusts that they can all play together.

“Omer might not really see the total big picture right now, and I totally understand … He and Jeremy Lin will be very good playing with me. I’m going to do whatever I can to make those guys’ lives better. I realize how much they mean to this team.”
