Compared to domestic soccer leagues in Europe and South America, Major League Soccer is a relatively young competition
So, it’s safe to say that Hassoun Camara broke new ground.
Camara, a defender for the Montreal Impact, scored a bicycle-kick goal against the Colorado Rapids. While other MLS players have scored using that bit of skill before, none (that we know of) have ever managed to do so from the ground as Camara did on Saturday night.
Camara’s strike came as his team was trailing 1-0 late in the first half. He jumped in an effort to head a corner kick toward the Colorado goal, but he lost his balance and fell to the ground.  There was a scramble which took Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens out of the play, and the ball pinged back to the still-seated Camara. Naturally, he flicked it up to himself and booted it — over his head — into the goal.
While Camara’s seated goal tied the game and wowed observers, Montreal went on to lose to Colorado 4-3.
Bicycle-kick goals are hard to come by. Scoring from the ground is even rarer. Just when it looked like Ecuadoran striker Walter Calderon locked up the coveted (and non-existent) “Best Goal from the Ground” award, Camara stepped forward, fell down and kicked it out of his hands.
