jake the snakeWWF star Jake “The Snake” Roberts has been working to get his life back on track.

The wrestler who brought the DDT to the WWF ring has been sober for nearly a year and is already working on a project to get back in the spotlight. Roberts is set to star in a new feature film called Heavy Water, according to a report from E! Online. The film is billed on its Kickstarter page as an “indie drama” following a young man, fresh out of prison, who must choose “between his broken family and a curious new drug from a friend.”

The 58-year-old Roberts will play the role of Jed, who acts as a paternal figure to the young man.

“Jake’s experience as a professional wrestler translated into strong performances and brought a powerful presence to his character. His ability to improvise, take direction, and become the character shines through in his depiction of Jed,” the film’s director said via the Kickstarter page.

The film is still in its funding stages and has raised more than $4,000 on Kickstarter, with a goal of $25,000 by August 21.

Roberts is most famous for bringing his snake, Damien, into the ring with him during his WWF fights. He wrestled in his final match in January 2011 after battling subtance abuse issues, but after a number of months being sober, rumors continue to swirl that he could make his return to the ring.
