Jose Contreras Impressing in Pawtucket, Could Be Bullpen Option for Red Sox (Video)

Jose Contreras‘ first two outings in the Red Sox system could not have gone much better.

The 41-year-old, who boasts a potentially devastating forkball, did not allow a hit or a run in either appearance for Triple-A Pawtucket, striking out seven and walking three over 3 2/3 innings. Minor league production by no means guarantees success in the majors — Contreras himself put up solid numbers for Pittsburgh’s Triple-A affiliate earlier this year but could not get it done for the Pirates — but the veteran right-hander could be an intriguing possibility for the Red Sox moving forward.

Aetna Strikeouts for A Cause

For every strikeout by a Red Sox pitcher at Fenway Park in June, Aetna will donate $250 to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Through their continued efforts in the local community, Aetna is helping to build a healthier world -- one city and one strikeout at a time.
