Ron Artest, Yao MingFor most of his NBA career, Metta World Peace has been a brick wall on defense. If he ever finds himself without an NBA team in need of his services, he might take his skills to a place where they know a thing or two about walls — or one Great Wall, anyway.

World Peace, who is rumored to be in discussions to join the Knicks after the Lakers amnestied him last week, has spoken with Yao Ming about possibly playing in China. World Peace told Yahoo! Sports that he thinks playing in China would be “unique and fun” and that he “want[s] to be adventurous.”

World Peace would not be the first American star to play in the Far East. Stephon Marbury led the Beijing Ducks to the Chinese Basketball Association championship in 2012 and got a bronze statue made to commemorate his accomplishment. The unofficial sports ambassador to Asia, Dennis Rodman, was even on hand for the statue’s unveiling.

World Peace and Yao were teammates on the 2008-09 Rockets and formed a surprising bond. Each has said at some point that the other was one of the best teammates he has ever had.
