Nick Swisher Tagged Out Standing Next to Home Plate After Brayan Pena Coaxes Ball Fair Halfway Down Line (Video)

Surely Nick Swisher played Little League. Where was he on the day when they teach the kids to always run, even if the ball looks foul?

Swisher could only shake his head Monday night when he failed to run after Tigers catcher Brayan Pena made a heads-up play at the dish. Swisher tapped a ball into the dirt along the third base line that was clearly foul — until it wasn’t. Pena stalked the ball down the line until it fortuitously rolled back into the basepath, where he was able to scoop it up and chase down Swisher (at least, with as much chasing is required when the player doesn’t move) for an out.
