Padres Channel ‘Rookie of the Year,’ Attempt Hidden-Ball Trick to Pick Off Pablo Sandoval at Second Base (Video)

Everth Cabrera must have seen a recent cable showing of Rookie of the Year.

That’s the only way to explain why he attempted the hidden-ball trick on Pablo Sandoval in the fifth inning of the Padres-Giants game on Friday night. The move didn’t work because Sandoval had called time out.

Next thing you know, the Padres will be trying out some simlar deception from Little Big League, the phantom pick-off play. Hopefully no one brings a Babe Ruth-signed baseball out onto the Petco Park field. Reenacting the final climactic scene in The Sandlot could prove dangerous through the streets of San Diego.

Check out the Padres’ attempt at the hidden-ball trick below.
