New England signed undrafted rookie cornerback Justin Green on Sunday. The Illinois defender worked out with the team on Thursday, according to a source.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound corner began his career with the Illini as a running back before moving over to the defensive side of the ball two weeks before the 2010 season. Green started 29 games for Illinois during his four-year career. He played 12 games as a senior, starting 11. He recorded six passes defended and 36 tackles.

Green ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at Illinois’ pro day. He’s now the fourth former Illini on the Patriots’ roster, joining second-year safety Tavon Wilson, rookie defensive end Michael Buchanan and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui.
