Olympic HockeyWhile 47 Canadian-born NHL players will compete for a spot on their country’s Olympic squad in late August, 48 Americans will do the same.

On Monday, USA Hockey announced a roster of six goaltenders, 18 defensemen and 24 forwards that will be attending the team’s Olympic orientation camp from Aug. 26-27 in Arlington, Va.

Among the 2014 candidates are a number of standouts from the 2010 Games, including tournament MVP Ryan Miller and team leading scorer Zach Parise.

No Bruins players were included on the preliminary list (only Tim Thomas represented the team in Vancouver), but former B’s Phil Kessel and Blake Wheeler were among those invited to Arlington, as were New England natives Jonathan Quick, Keith Yandle, Cory Schneider and Kevin Shattenkirk.

The United States has not won gold in the Olympics since the 1980 Miracle on Ice squad defeated the Soviet Union in Lake Placid. They have been knocked out in the gold-medal game by Canada in two of the last three Olympiads, including an overtime loss in the 2010 final.
