Alex RodriguezThe Biogenesis investigation in Major League Baseball may soon be taking a very serious turn.

One day after Ryan Braun was handed a season-ending suspension for his connection with the Biogenesis clinic, Jim Axelrod of CBS Evening News is reporting that Alex Rodriguez could be facing a lifetime ban from MLB.

Rodriguez is expected to at least get suspended as a result of MLB’s investigation. ESPN is reporting that Rodriguez is facing discipline that stretches “far beyond” what Braun received, and that the length of the Yankees third baseman’s suspension would be determined based on MLB’s belief that he interfered with its investigation.

Rodriguez also plans to appeal whatever punishment he receives, according to USA Today.

It is not known yet when Rodriguez’s ban will be announced, but it’s expected to happen in the next two to three weeks, according to CBS.

Rodriguez has not suited up for the Yankees yet this season as he continues to battle various injuries.
