Alex Rodriguez is said to be “all but assured” of receiving a lengthy suspension, at least 50 games but possibly more, due to his alleged connection with the Florida anti-aging clinic, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman. Rodriguez is said to be one of about 15 players whose suspensions may be announced within the next couple of weeks.
“MLB has receipts, checks, the whole nine yards,” said a source of Heyman’s.
MLB made the decision to press forth with the suspensions of players who refused to answer questions when interviewed by league investigators, according to Heyman. However, since the suspensions would be based on a “non-analytical positive,” meaning there is no positive PED test, Rodriguez and other players would have the right to appeal any suspensions.
Rodriguez is currently continuing his rehabilitation in Tampa, Fla., after suffering a Grade 1 quadriceps strain in a Triple-A game. However, Rodriguez is said to have sought a second opinion on the injury without notifying the Yankees, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.
Rodriguez is said to be targeting a return to the Yankees in two weeks. However, a 50-game suspension would preclude him from playing at all in 2013 under that scenario, with the Yankees 98 games into their season.
