Report: Brian Wilson Working Out in Hawaii, ‘Making Progress’ in Return From Tommy John Surgery

Brian WilsonBrian Wilson‘s status has been somewhat of a mystery, although it sounds like there’s still a chance he could pitch in 2013.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Wilson has been working out in Hawaii and making progress. Olney says that it figures if Wilson is going to pitch this season, the right-hander will work out for scouts in late July or early August.

Wilson hasn’t pitched this year after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery, and he only pitched in two games last season, meaning a lot of unpredictability surrounds his baseball future. The 31-year-old closer was named to his third All-Star Game in 2011, though, and he has 171 career saves to his credit, so some teams might consider adding him, provided he’s healthy.

Olney suggests that the Giants, Dodgers and Angels would be natural fits depending on their interest levels and the roles involved. Perhaps the picture will become clearer in a few weeks.
