The Bruins have signed Jarome Iginla. No, seriously.
The veteran winger, who famously spurned the B’s to sign with Pittsburgh at the trade deadline, is now headed to Boston, the team announced Friday. Iginla’s contract — a one-year deal — carries a base salary of $1.8 million with $4.2 million in incentives.
Having failed to acquire free agents Daniel Alfredsson and Michael Ryder, the signing of Iginla comes as a huge boost to the Bruins, who have already lost four forwards from this year’s lineup through trade or free agency.
Iginla was the most decorated scorer in Flames history before being traded to the Penguins in February, leading the franchise in career goals, points and games played while being named to six All-Star games. The 36-year-old tallied five goals and six assists in 13 games after the trade, and an additional 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in the playoffs.
Iginla is the second top-level winger added in the last two days by the Bruins, who also acquired former Stars forward Loui Eriksson on Thursday in a trade that included Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley.
