Aaron Hernandez‘s mysterious connection to Carlos Ortiz, who has also been arrested and connected to Odin Llloyd‘s murder, is starting to come into focus.
Ortiz was arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Tuesday as an accomplice in Hernandez’s murder case. He is also being held without bail. What was also revealed on Tuesday was Ortiz’s otherwise unknown relationship to Hernandez.
Ortiz knew the former Patriots tight end through Hernandez’s older brother DJ, Ortiz’s attorney John Connors revealed on Tuesday, according to USA Today Connors added that it was “a good possibility” that Ortiz and DJ, who are both 27 years old, played sports together in high school in their hometown of Bristol, Conn.
DJ Hernandez was a standout quarterback and wide receiver at the university of Connecticut from 2004 to 2009. He is currently an assistant coach at the University of Iowa after a stint at the University of Miami in 2012.
One of Ortiz’s close friends, Cesar Sanchez, also noted the connection between Ortiz and Aaron Hernandez in the report, saying Ortiz would hang out with Hernandez at his North Attleboro home and that the two knew “the same people” from Bristol.
Ortiz has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm. He will appear back in court on Aug. 14 for a dangerousness hearing, where his bail will be reviewed.
