It appears that we’re close to having a winner in the Matt Garza sweepstakes.
FOXSports.com reports that the Rangers are close to acquiring Garza from the Cubs. According to the Sacramento Bee’s Joe Davidson, the deal, which involves six players, is “99 percent done” and the teams are now going over medical records.
The Cubs will receive a strong package of prospects for Garza, according to FOXSports.com. Neither team has made the deal official, but the Rangers are reportedly the “most motivated” bidder for Garza.
The Cubs and Rangers reportedly have discussed Texas prospects at various levels, and Single-A right-hander C.J. Edwards and Triple-A third baseman Mike Olt are among those who have been discussed.
Garza is in the midst of a very good season for the Cubs, going 6-1 with a 3.17 ERA in 11 starts. He is slated to become a free agent after this season, though, so it’s understandable that Chicago would like to deal the right-hander to aid its rebuilding effort.
