HernandezThe Aaron Hernandez jersey exchange has, so far, been a success.

The Patriots exchanged 500 jerseys in the first hour and a half, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. More than 20 percent of the jerseys were youth size.

The most popular jerseys that fans grabbed for their unwanted Hernandez apparel in the first hour were Vince Wilfork, Tom Brady and Chandler Jones, according to Rovell. Last season, Hernandez’s jersey was the fourth-most purchased among Patriots fans. Brady, Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski were the top three.

The Patriots are hoping to recycle the Hernandez jerseys, according to Rovell. If they can’t, they will be destroyed, not shipped to another country.
