Could we soon see a reunion in the Lone Star State?
The Rangers and Phillies have talked about a trade that would send Michael Young back to Texas, according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark. However, the talks reportedly are considered “exploratory,” and no deal is close at the moment.
It’s still interesting to see the Rangers consider Young, though. The 36-year-old spent his first 13 seasons in Texas before the Rangers shipped him to Philadelphia back in December. Young is the Rangers’ all-time hits leader with 2,230 hits in a Texas uniform.
Stark reports that the Rangers have been hunting for a right-handed bat, but haven’t come close to landing one. Young fits that mold, and he is hitting .278 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs this season.
Young’s name has been tossed around in trade chatter for a while, with the Red Sox and Yankees among the teams linked to the infielder. The Phillies have been an interesting team, though, as it appears that they’re now finally willing to listen to offers on some guys after insisting that they wouldn’t be sellers.
The Rangers’ other targets reportedly have included Alex Rios of the White Sox, Hunter Pence of the Giants, Kendrys Morales and Michael Morse of the Mariners and Justin Ruggiano of the Marlins. Texas reportedly prefers an outfielder, meaning that Young, an infielder, is considered a secondary option.
