It’s not normal that one of the three most recent Vezina Trophy winners is without a team to play for, but Tim Thomas isn’t necessarily normal.
The longtime Bruins netminder and current NHL free agent is looking for a home for the 2013-14 season after taking last year off. Most recently a New York Islander, Thomas is hoping to make a triumphant comeback to the league, with rumors indicating that the Flyers, Panthers and Isles could be suitors.
However, the Calgary Sun is reporting that Thomas “hasn’t made much, if any, progress” in his comeback trail, adding that “general managers don’t seem to care” that he’s is ready to return to the NHL.
The Flyers are likely out of the TT sweepstakes, as they have Ray Emery and Steve Mason locked up. The Isles have Evgeni Nabokov and Kevin Poulin. While some reports list the Panthers as Thomas’ best shot at a comeback, they already have Scott Clemmensen and 6-foot-6 keeper Jacob Markstrom (who recently signed on for two more years) between the pipes in Florida.
