Von MillerAmid the Biogenesis drama, rumors swirled Monday when it was reported that Von Miller was facing a four-game suspension from the NFL for violating the league’s drug policy.

Fans and sports analysts alike wondered what could have triggered the suspension, with some wondering whether Miller violated the performance-enhancing drug policy or the recreational drug policy.

As it turns out, it might have been neither. A source close to The Denver Post told the paper that the Denver Broncos linebacker did not test positive for performance-enhancing drugs or for recreational drugs before he was suspended. The suspension, which Miller is in the process of appealing, could have stemmed from another violation.

Miller did test positive for marijuana in 2011 during his rookie season, The Post points out, and that would have placed him in the NFL’s drug program. Once in the program, any number of things, outside of failed drug tests, can result in a possible suspension, such as missing drug tests or missing counseling sessions.
