spotlightThe saying “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” doesn’t apply to Chad Gaudin, no matter how badly he wishes it would.

The San Francisco Giants pitcher is being charged with open and gross lewdness, a misdemeanor, after an arrest in Sin City on Jan. 27, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. Gaudin was drunk around 4:30 a.m. when he approached a 23-year-old woman lying on a gurney in the lobby of a hospital emergency room, according to police.

The 30-year-old told the patient she was “gorgeous” and touched her breast and face. A witness also heard Gaudin tell the woman, “I will take care of you, don’t worry about them.”

After a paramedic tried unsuccessfully to keep Gaudin away from the woman, hospital security held him down until police arrived.

“I asked Gaudin several times how he ended up at the hospital, and each time he told me that he didn’t know,” the officer wrote in his report. “Gaudin appeared to be intoxicated. He had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, trouble standing still, obeying commands, an odor of alcoholic beverages and couldn’t repeat his house number, where he lives, the same way twice in a row.”

Gaudin’s lawyer, Dominic Gentile, issued a statement about the incident and attributed acute renal failure as the cause of the pitcher’s behavior.

“Chad Gaudin was examined in the emergency room of a local hospital while experiencing symptoms believed to be related to acute renal failure due to a condition known as rhabdomyolysis. The symptoms included confusion, dehydration and loss of orientation and/or consciousness,” Gentile wrote. “Although he has been accused of improperly touching another hospital patient while on the premises that night, there are differing and exonerating versions of what occurred that have been reported by eye witnesses.”

Gaudin is 2-1 this year with a 2.44 ERA as a starter and reliever for the Giants.
