Tom BradyTom Brady was spoiled to start his NFL career, winning three Super Bowls in his first four seasons as a starter. Now, he realizes just how difficult a feat that is.

“We’ve had our chances,” Brady told SI’s Peter King in his debut column for The MMQB. “Twice. More than twice, actually. I still have plenty of chances to do it. What I’ve learned is it’s really, really hard to win the Super Bowl. I didn’t get that perspective early, winning three out of the first four years I played.”

After so much success and glory to begin his career, Brady has endured the pain and suffering of defeat for eight seasons now. Losing two Super Bowls, both in pretty devastating fashion, in a span of four years has obviously humbled Brady and taught him not to take the achievement for granted.

The Patriots have a bevy of questions facing them heading into this new season, most of which stem from off-the-field issues. But Brady isn’t paying attention to all the noise, relishing in his opportunities with the Patriots and keeping focused on bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to New England.

“[What] I like about this franchise is we’ve got a shot every year,” Brady said. “I love the fact we were in the AFC title game last year, the Super Bowl the year before that, and 14-2 the year before that. Can we win this year? It’ll be determined by our level of commitment, the mental toughness. We’ll find it out before the season. How committed are we?”

The Patriots officially begin training camp on Friday, July 26. So, Brady and the rest of the team should find out soon just what that commitment level is.
