Young Red Sox Fan Tricks Yankees Third Base Coach Into Giving Him Foul Ball by Wearing New York Hat (Video)

Lack of loyalty, or ingenuity?

A young Red Sox fan found a rather tricky way to snag a foul ball during the Red Sox’ 8-7 marathon win on Sunday night. In the bottom of the third inning, Jose Iglesias fouled a pitch into the Yankees dugout. Third base coach Rob Thomson (not to be confused with Matchbox 20 lead singer Rob Thomas) picked up the ball and tossed it to a kid wearing a New York cap sitting right behind the dugout.

Just one problem — the fix was in, and Thomson had been had.

That supposed young Yankees fan turned out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. As soon as he got the ball, the kid shed his cap to reveal his true colors — a Red Sox hat underneath. (Closer inspection reveals the kid was also wearing a Red Sox shirt and a Red Sox Kevin Youkilis wristband.)

On a completely unrelated note, we hope the guy in orange across the aisle from the kid either plays Santa Claus at the mall during the holiday season or doubles as Jerry Garcia in a Grateful Dead tribute band.
