It’s always a spectacle when the Red Sox take on the Yankees, but one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports will have an added bit of intrigue when New York travels to Boston this weekend.
Alex Rodriguez will play at Fenway Park for the first time since he was suspended 211 games by Major League Baseball for his involvement in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal. The third baseman has decided to appeal that suspension, and he has hit .278 with a home run and four RBIs since returning on Aug. 5.
When Red Sox manager John Farrell was asked for his thoughts on a player who was suspended for PED use being able to play, he seemed to support Rodriguez’s right to appeal under the rules as they are written.
“He has every right to appeal [the suspension], which he is,” Farrell told WEEI.com. “We know he’s going to be in the lineup, and we’ll prepare accordingly. The process he’s going through is well within his rights. They’re in place for a reason and you can’t argue it. He being on the field is out of our hands. Until completely proven guilty this is what we’re dealing with.”
Chances are, Rodriguez will have to deal with something this weekend, as well — a very hostile Fenway crowd.
