Alfonzo Dennard, Aqib TalibFOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots defense is finally experiencing some continuity this season. They’re bringing back 10 of 11 starters and should be showing more complex looks this season as a result.

Despite some familiar faces, the group wants to forge a new identity.

“I mean, it’s some of the same faces, some new faces,” Aqib Talib said. “We’re going to try to establish our identity every year. We’re not trying to do what we did last year. That was last year. This is a new year. We want to establish our identity this year.”

Talib will still be playing next to Devin McCourty, Alfonzo Dennard, Steve Gregory and Kyle Arrington, but Logan Ryan, Duron Harmon and Adrian Wilson are all new to the Patriots, and he never played with Ras-I Dowling last season.

“We just trying to be assignment sound, fast defense,” Talib said.

Talib said the team has made a lot of progress from the beginning of training camp, becoming better as a whole.

“Communication. Lot better communication,” Talib said. “We getting in a lot better shape. So we’re moving a lot better. Things like that.”
