Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has not gone out of his way to correct reports that the relationship between the Yankees and Alex Rodriguez have deteriorated.
As Rodriguez plays through his appeal of a 211-game suspension and accusations that the team mishandled his treatment of last year’s hip injury, a reporter characterized the two sides as being “at war” on Sunday, and Cashman did not disagree, according to an ESPN article.
“These are unique times,” Cashman told reporters. “It’s not just Yankees management. He’s putting it at the level of our trainers, our medical staff, the organization, the team.”
Rodriguez and Cashman are anything but best buds it seems. They “crossed paths” at the team hotel, Cashman said, but they didn’t yuck it up about old times.
“I said ‘hello,'” Cashman said. “I don’t walk by him. He’s a member of the team. … I’m not comfortable talking to Alex about this because we feel we are in a litigious environment. Hello and goodbye, that’s about it. I’m not comfortable talking to him anymore. I don’t want to be distorted.”
Rodriguez may be member of the team — for now — but that is about it.
