Josh Freeman, Doug MartinFOXBORO, Mass. — The Buccaneers suffered a loss during the first quarter of their preseason game with the Patriots on Friday night.

Buccaneers Pro Bowl running back Doug Martin took a knee to the head while pass protecting for quarterback Josh Freeman late in the first quarter. He spent some time talking with the Tampa Bay training staff before being taken back to the locker room for further examination.

Martin carried the ball just one time for four yards on the night before coming out of the game. Rookie running back Mike James, who was selected in the sixth round of this year’s draft, took his place in the backfield. James and Peyton Hills are likely to see the majority of the carries in Martin’s stead.
