Fab MeloThe Celtics took a chance on Fab Melo as a bit of a developmental project, but they have apparently abandoned that plan.

The C’s announced Thursday that they have traded the center to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for forward Donte Greene. The Celtics will also include cash considerations as part of the exchange.

Greene is a 2008 first-round pick who was taken No. 28 overall by Memphis, but he spent the first four seasons of his career with the Sacramento Kings. He has 253 career games to his name, and he’s averaged 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Greene averages 16.8 minutes per game.

Melo, meanwhile, appeared in just six games for the Celtics in his rookie season after he was taken with the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2012 draft. The Syracuse product averaged 1.2 points and 0.5 rebounds per game in those contests. He spent the majority of the season in Maine with the Celtics’ NBDL team.
